Buy a Staybolt Program Now Available
February 2, 2026
RJD America LLC is proud to announce the official launch of the Buy a Staybolt Program, a unique opportunity for supporters to directly participate in the ongoing boiler restoration of the legendary Chesapeake and Ohio Steam Locomotive No. 614.
Through this program, supporters may purchase an authentic retired flexible staybolt with its original cap, removed during documented boiler restoration work currently underway. Each purchase directly funds the one-for-one manufacture and installation of a brand-new flexible staybolt, sleeve, and cap, ensuring continued safety, compliance, and long-term preservation of the locomotive.
Every purchase includes a Certificate of Authenticity jointly issued by RJD America LLC and Strasburg Rail Road Mechanical Services, confirming that the component was removed during the active restoration program.
Quantities are strictly limited. Not all retired flexible staybolts are being offered due to the removal process and preservation standards. Availability is finite, and once the program allocation is exhausted, no additional components will be released.
This program offers a rare opportunity to own a tangible piece of American railroad history while directly supporting the return of C&O 614 to steam.

Chesapeake & Ohio 614 Begins Her Road to Restoration at the Strasburg Rail Road
June 9, 2025
STRASBURG, PA — This past weekend marked a powerful and emotional milestone in American rail preservation: the legendary Chesapeake & Ohio steam locomotive 614 has officially arrived at the Strasburg Rail Road to begin a complete restoration. The 382-mile journey from Clifton Forge, Virginia, completed June 8, 2025, was not just a move; it was a handoff in a generational story.
In a striking moment captured on site, members of RJD America LLC and the Strasburg Rail Road stood united before two giants of American steam, C&O #614 and Great Western #90. These machines are more than iron and fire; they are living time machines, carrying the spirit of an era when steam drove a nation forward.
But it takes more than metal to bring legends like 614 back to life. It takes a devoted team of volunteers, craftsmen, and dreamers who work through grease, grit, and long nights with nothing but passion and pride. These are the faces behind the fire—the people who refuse to let history fade. Restoring a steam locomotive is a monumental undertaking—gritty, complex, and intensely demanding. It’s not just about making an old engine run again; it’s about reversing decades of wear, corrosion, and fatigue. Every component must be carefully removed, inspected, and either restored or replaced to meet modern safety and operational standards. The work is physically demanding, often performed in tight spaces, under heavy equipment, and in various weather conditions. It requires a rare blend of historical knowledge, mechanical expertise, and sheer perseverance. From machining custom parts to hand-fitting staybolts and boiler tubes, every detail matters. This is craftsmanship at its highest level—where tradition meets engineering, and where the past is brought roaring back to life through the hands of those determined to keep it alive.
For over four decades, 614 stood as a symbol of American steam power. First preserved and operated under Ross Rowland and Iron Horse Enterprises, and later safeguarded by the Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society, each chapter of her life has been rooted in respect, care, and an enduring commitment to legacy.
Now, a new chapter begins.
With support from C&O Historical Society, CSX Transportation, Buckingham Branch Railroad, and Norfolk Southern Corporation, 614 made her historic journey to Pennsylvania under the protection and precision of railroad professionals who treated the task not just as a move but as a mission. We extend our heartfelt thanks to every individual involved in this extraordinary operation, especially Zach Hall, whose tireless efforts played a crucial role in ensuring the success of this complex move.
With her arrival at the Strasburg Rail Road, the torch now passes to the world-class mechanical team that will undertake her restoration. Under their care, the real work begins, painstaking disassembly, inspections, and eventually, the rebirth of a legend. This is where cold steel meets hot ambition, where silence becomes steam, where history moves once more.
Stay tuned. The fire will burn again. Chesapeake & Ohio 614 is coming back!
